China TermNet and International TermNet tie-up in EuroChina 2002

–terminology as core success factor for the global information and knowledge society–

        The high-level conference and exhibition "China-EU Cooperation Forum on Information Society" provides a state-of-the-art of European scientific, technological and economic efforts to contibute to the global information and knowledge society, which will be held in China World Trade Centre, Beijing 16-20 April 2002. The emerging information and knowledge society is international and global because of the information and communication networks, which transgress national boundaries. However, it must be governed by "localization" and "personalization" practices in order to meet individuals' needs. This also means that it must be multilingual from the outset, as individuals are deeply rooted in their "local" cultural and linguistic communities.

     International TermNet (headquartered in Vienna, Austria) and China TermNet (lead by the China National Institute of Standardization) tied-up in a joint booth shared with their members at EuroChina 2002 in order to demonstrate, how much the success of the global information and knowledge society depends on comfortably accessible high-quality terminology as well as on affordable multilingual information services and software tools. China could become world leader in this field given past efforts in the field of terminology, if she combines this experience with high-level system development and information services. 
      For China, which has recently joined the WTO, this - often underestimated - aspect is of high relevance not only with respect to scientific technical development, but also in conjunction with export activities: as a rule products and services have to be sold using the language of the target markets!
    科学技术部、信息产业部、欧盟委员会（信息社会总司）将于2002年4月16日至20日在北京中国国际贸易中心共同举办"2002中欧信息社会合作论坛"。国际术语网和中国术语工作网联手参加本次论坛表明术语学与术语标准化、以及多语种服务在全球信息社会的成功和作用。
"2002 中欧信息社会合作论坛"旨在交流信息社会的战略政策和技术研发重点，加强中欧之间在信息社会领域的对话和合作，展示欧洲最新的信息技术和产品，推动中欧的技术和商务合作。论坛由大会、展览、合作广场和现场会谈四部分组成。
